Welcome kings and queens
let’s change the game together
mentor2youth: Who we are + what we do
Mentor2Youth is a non-profit organization serving Ypsilanti youth through mentorship, academic support, and chess.
Our Raising Royalty curriculum bridges the opportunity gap by introducing students from historically underserved backgrounds to the game of chess as a strategic framework to generate healthy lives, rewarding careers, and a strong sense of community.
Raising Royalty helps students build disciplined habits of purpose in areas of academics, emotional intelligence, civics, finances, and character development.
Using a holistic approach that includes mentorship, guided conversations, activities, guest speakers, and chess play, the Kings and Queens in our programs learn how to play the game of life – and thrive.

Testimonial: Jennifer + j.j.
“My grandson J.J. has been with the Mentor2Youth program for three years, working with Darryl Johnson as his mentor. I cannot say enough good things about Darryl – he’s made such a positive impact on our family’s life. He has shown my grandson what it means to be a good man and J.J. has grown so much. J.J. knows that he has someone that he can trust and someone he can talk to if he has a problem – and so do I.”
– Jennifer, grandmother to M2Y participant J.J., age 10
