Social Emotional Learning (S.E.L.)

Overview

Mentor2Youth provides an intervention program catered towards the social-emotional development of students. This is a curriculum based series of workshops and programming catered towards eight areas of competency: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, goal-directed behavior, personal responsibility, decision making and optimistic thinking. Through our DESSA assessment we are able to identify areas of growth for a child personalizing a motivated plan of action (MAP) that supports their development in areas of growth during the course of a year. Workshops and programming are facilitated by local professionals and college students. The program maintains a 1:3 ratio to ensure all students’ needs are met through an individualized approach towards education. 1-2hr Workshops encompass multi-learning style activities (i.e. visual, hands-on, discussion) that engage students at their learning level and reinforce specific fundamental skills. Through workshops and instruction inclusive of diversity, different learning styles and a positive culture, students will be placed in an environment that empowers and motivates them to improve personally and academically.

This assessment is conducted quarterly to evaluate progress in these areas. It’s specifically for youth grades K-8th. The Developmental Assets Profile (DAP) is a quantitative assessment that will be conducted as a pre/post test to be taken by the students. This assesses internal and external assets that impact a child’s social-emotional well being. Specifically for youth grades 9th – 12th.
